Big News for Mt Barker: New Hotel & Entertainment Precinct Approved

There’s exciting momentum building in Mt Barker, and it’s another great reason why life in the Adelaide Hills — and at Aston Hills — continues to become more vibrant and connected.

Wallis Entertainment has secured planning approval for its ambitious Wallis Mt Barker project, a major new hotel and entertainment precinct that will transform the area and create fresh opportunities for locals, families, and visitors alike. The development is expected to open in 2028, bringing long‑term amenity and activity to the region.

What’s Being Built

The approved plans include:

  • A new hotel — broadening premium accommodation options in the Adelaide Hills and helping support local tourism and events.
  • A suite of family‑friendly entertainment spaces, including duckpin bowling, laser tag, crazy mini golf, arcade games and sensory‑friendly areas — appealing to all ages.

While the previously proposed large function centre has been adjusted in the current plans, the refreshed precinct will also include an update to the nearby Oak & Iron Tavern, enhancing the overall experience while preserving its welcoming character.

A Boost for the Adelaide Hills

This project comes on the back of other major developments in Mt Barker that are helping shape the region as a destination that goes beyond just residential living. From expanded health and community facilities to ongoing infrastructure upgrades, the Hills is growing in ways that support both lifestyle and convenience — without losing its relaxed charm.

For Aston Hills residents and future buyers, the Wallis project brings:

  • More entertainment options right on your doorstep
  • Better reasons to stay local for weekends and social outings
  • Increased visitor appeal — great for families and friends coming from outside the Hills
  • Added confidence in further growth and amenity investment across the region

What Happens Next

With planning approval now in place, the focus will shift to detailed design and implementation. Wallis Entertainment continues to work with architects, planners and stakeholders to bring these new experiences to life — and further updates will be released as key milestones are reached.

As the Adelaide Hills continues to grow and evolve, developments like this underline just how much there is to look forward to — whether you’re already calling Aston Hills home or considering making the move.
