The Adelaide Hills has been officially named the second most liveable region in Australia, according to a new national survey that measured communities across the country on a range of lifestyle, wellbeing, and economic indicators.
Scoring 68.78 out of 100 on the “happy living score”, the Adelaide Hills was narrowly edged out for first place by Sutherland in New South Wales, which scored 68.96. The Northern Beaches in NSW rounded out the top three nationally.
A Tight Race at the Top
The results highlight just how competitive liveability has become across Australia’s most desirable regions.
- 1st – Sutherland (NSW): 68.96
- 2nd – Adelaide Hills (SA): 68.78
- 3rd – Northern Beaches (NSW)
With only a fraction of a point separating first and second place, the Adelaide Hills performance reflects a consistently strong showing across multiple liveability measures.
What Drove the Adelaide Hills’ High Score
The survey assessed regions on a combination of factors including employment, income, housing, health services, education, and overall wellbeing — alongside lifestyle indicators such as community connection and environment.
The Adelaide Hills performed particularly strongly in:
- Mental wellbeing
- Work-life balance
- Access to green space and natural amenity
- Sense of community and belonging
These softer lifestyle factors played a major role in lifting the region into the top tier nationally.
Lifestyle That Balances Space and Connection
One of the defining strengths of the Adelaide Hills is its ability to balance two things that are often hard to find together — space and connection.
Residents benefit from open landscapes, nature, and a slower pace of life, while still maintaining close access to Adelaide’s employment, schools, and services.
That combination continues to be reflected in national liveability data, where the region consistently scores highly for wellbeing and lifestyle satisfaction.
What This Means for Lanser communities
At Aston Hills and Clover Wood, these results speak directly to the kind of lifestyle being created within the Adelaide Hills region — and specifically across Lanser’s Mount Barker communities.
Both communities have been thoughtfully designed around the same qualities that have helped the region achieve its national ranking: space, connection, and liveability.
